This is the Taylor 047701 Danfoss compressor replacement that cools the mix in the hopper of a wide variety of Taylor soft serve machines.

How do I know if my hopper compressor is bad?

Since this Danfoss compressor only cools the mix in the hopper, your first clue there is a problem will be a high product temp in the mix hopper.  The temperature in the mix is read by the thermistor probe, which connects to the logic board, the logic board tells the power board when to supply power to the compressor.  A ribbon cable connects the logic board to the power board. The other components in this refrigeration system are a EPR valve (evaporator pressure regulator) and a fixed orfice metering device (capillary tube).  The mix hopper condenser fan is wired in series with the compressor.  Since the power board supplys 220 volt power directly to this compressor, it is not uncommon for a shorted compressor to also get to the power board.
