Taylor Softech Ice Cream Machine Settings & Adjustments
Taylor gravity-fed soft serve machines are equipped with Softech control boards that manage refrigeration, motor operation, product texture, and food safety. Here's a breakdown of what each control does and how to adjust them for consistent, high-quality product.
MIX Button
The MIX button activates refrigeration in the hopper. This ensures the product stays below food-safe temperatures (typically 38–40°F). A red LED indicates when the mix compressor and fan are running. This function is essential whenever there’s product in the hopper.
✅ Turns on automatically with AUTO or STANDBY.
STANDBY Mode
STANDBY mode keeps product safe during low or no sales periods—like overnight—by chilling the freezing cylinders to ~35°F. The motor and compressor run periodically to prevent over-beating. When using standby:
-
Flip or remove the feed tube first
-
Expect product in the cylinder to return to a liquid state
-
Adjust the standby temperature as needed using the dial (don’t force it)
WASH Mode
The WASH button runs only the motor, allowing you to clean the machine safely. Use this mode before removing mix for cleaning. Important safety notes:
-
Never add water unless WASH is active or the power is off
-
Never run AUTO with water in the machine
-
Water in freezing cylinders can cause severe internal damage
AUTO Mode
AUTO is for normal product operation. Use this after priming or exiting standby. Once activated:
-
The motor and compressor start freezing the product
-
The system monitors viscosity using amp draw
-
The unit cycles off once the set consistency is reached
📌 Always flip the feed tube before starting AUTO.
Viscosity Control
Viscosity (product texture or “hardness”) is adjusted by monitoring the amp draw on the beater motor. The control board turns the machine off once the target draw is hit.
To adjust viscosity:
-
Clockwise = harder product
-
Counterclockwise = softer product
-
Turn the dial no more than 1 hour at a time (e.g. from 12:00 to 1:00)
-
Pull product after each cycle and fine-tune as needed
STANDBY Temperature Adjustment
STANDBY cut-in temperatures are adjustable via a small dial. The cut-out temp is always 4°F lower.
Steps:
-
Prime the machine
-
Press STANDBY
-
Draw product after a cycle ends and take a reading
-
Adjust the dial clockwise (colder) or counterclockwise (warmer)
Tip: Check temperature first thing in the morning after overnight standby.
MIX Temperature Adjustment
MIX temp in the hopper should stay between 38°F and 40°F. Use the adjustment dial to fine-tune:
-
Clockwise = colder
-
Counterclockwise = warmer
-
Don't force the dial beyond its natural stop
