How to Diagnose a Worn Drive Bearing
Drive bearing wear develops gradually. Watch for these signs:
- Knocking, grinding, or rumbling from the drive area — early-stage bearing wear; plan replacement before it fails completely
- Increased vibration during operation — bearing no longer centering the drive shaft properly
- Beater difficult to insert or remove — bearing may be seized or deformed
- Visible wear, scoring, or damage on the bearing surface — replace immediately
- Unusual heat from the drive area — friction from a failing bearing
Do not continue operating with a suspected failed drive bearing — a seized bearing can cause secondary damage to the drive shaft and beater assembly.
When to Replace
